Royalton went 3-2-1 to earn second place at the Upsala tournament, Oct. 17, finishing the regular season with a winning record of 14-10-1.
Junior Haley Olson led the Royals on the day, producing 112 set assists and a dozen kills in six matches.
Senior Emily Fussy delivered a reliable performance throughout the day, hitting 33 kills, including at least four in every match.
Swanville split with Holdingford (25-22, 23-25) and fell to Sebeka (25-21, 25-19) in its first pool of the tournament, then topped Milaca (25-21, 25-22) before falling to Royalton (25-9, 25-10) in its second pool.
In the bronze pool, Swanville outlasted Onamia (25-14, 20-25, 15-9) before dropping a tight rematch with Holdingford to end the day (25-18, 28-26).
Junior Danica Hanson posted 29 kills, senior Nikki Primus had 23 and sophomore Haileigh Sales had 16 to power the Swanville offense, with Sales adding 45 set assists.
Senior Danielle Sutton led the Bulldogs defensively with 36 digs.
Upsala split with Milaca (25-27, 25-19) and fell to Bertha-Hewitt (25-14, 25-16) to open the day, then rebounded to defeat Onamia (25-12, 25-19) and Holdingford (25-14, 25-13).
The Cardinals fell to Henning (25-18, 25-19) and Milaca (21-25, 25-19, 15-13) in the silver pool to conclude the tournament.
Royalton defeated Atwater-Cosmos-Grove City and Upsala defeated Swanville in Thursday’s opening round of the Section 5A tournament.
