The Little Falls boys cross country team took fifth at Thursday’s Section 8AA meet in Detroit Lakes, coming up a little short in its quest to overcome a season filled with injuries and other maladies to advance to state, as Bemidji and Alexandria took the top two spots.
Seniors Mathew Massmann (17:35.2) and Cameron Smith (17:39.7) and eighth-grader Hunter Zupko (17:44.8) all finished in the top 22 to lead the Flyers boys.
The Flyers girls took 10th in the meet, with all seven of its runners bunched within 26 seconds of one another.
