Royalton didn’t come away with the Sub-Section 5A South championship Thursday night in Pierz.

But the Royals certainly did come away showing they belonged on the court with one of the top teams in the state, taking a set from sixth-ranked Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa in a 25-14, 25-13, 23-25, 25-10 defeat.

Senior Emily Fussy was the catalyst in the third set, slamming eight of her 10 kills as the Royals erased a 6-2 deficit in the set.

Junior Abby Duevel finished with eight kills and 11 digs, senior Jenna Skajewski had 25 digs and junior Haley Olson posted 23 set assists.
