Pierz teens injured in two-car accident

Two teenagers from Pierz were injured in a two-vehicle accident Friday, Nov. 1.

About 2:30 p.m., the call came in to the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department, about the accident that occurred at the intersection of 270th Avenue and 133rd Street in Pierz Township.

A 1997 Chrysler Town and Country, driven by a Matthew Athman, 17-year-old Pierz resident, was headed southbound on 270th Avenue, when it was struck by a 2005 Chevy Silverado, driven by Shawn Hoheisel, 25, Pierz, who was westbound on 133rd Street.

Athman was flown from the scene to St. Cloud Hospital by North AirCare, and his passenger, Abby Athman, 14, Pierz, was flown to Hennepin County Medical Center (HCMC).

Alcohol was determined not to be a factor in the accident and everyone was wearing their seatbelt. The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating the accident. Both vehicles were totalled.

Assisting the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department at the scene were members of the Minnesota State Patrol, Pierz Police Department, Gold Cross Ambulance, Pierz Fire and Rescue and North AirCare.
