Pierz drama students to present ‘The Music Man’

The Pierz Healy High School drama students, under the direction of Diane Hauan, will be performing “The Music Man” Thursday, Nov. 14 and Saturday, Nov. 16 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at the Performance Arts Center at Healy High.

Meredith Willson’s “The Music Man” centers around a small Iowa town named River City. Here Marian the librarian (Stephanita ZumBerge) finds out that the Music Man, Professor Harold Hill (Kyle Becker) is a salesman that doesn’t know anything about the band lessons that he’s selling to the community. He is there to swindle the money out of everyone before he leaves town on the train. During his stay in River City, he meets Mayor Shinn (Andrew Sopkowiak) and his wife Eulalie Mackeckney Shinn (Kyra Engen), Winthrop (Landon Schomer), Mrs. Paroo (Cassie Virnig) and convinces them that he has the credentials to be the leader of the newly-formed boy’s band in their fair city.

When one of Professor Hill’s salesman friends named Charlie Cowell (Jordan Funk) comes into town and tells everyone that Professor Hill is just a thief, everything falls apart for the Music Man. Everything except that he has fallen in love with Marian and decides to stay in River City to lead the boy’s band after all.

Healy High School has produced musicals such as “Oklahoma!” “The Sound of Music,” “Fiddler on the Roof,” “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” and now “The Music Man.”

All are invited to join the 37 cast and crew members for an adventure to River City Iowa where there is trouble with a capital “T.” Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for students and free for children under 5.
