Susan Sorvari

Susan D. Sorvari, 89, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 16, 2013, at St. Marys Essentia Helth Hospice unit in Duluth.
Susan was born Nov. 11, 1923, in Elmer, to John and Judith Durish, the sixth of eight children. She attended Elmer grade school and the Toivola/Meadowlands High School. Susan married Eino W. Sorvari. They had two children, Gerald L. and Kenneth E. They were later divorced. As a long time resident of Duluth, Susan had been employed at J.C. Penneys in the alterations department, at NOrth Shore Manufacturing Company, Duluth, the U.S. Airbase Duluth, and retired from the U.S. Forest Service, Duluth. Susan was a founding member of Proctor, MN Bethlehem Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School. She embraced crossword puzzles, loved e-mailing her family daily, and going to the casino. In her later years she liked watching the birds at the feeder and deer that came to visit.
Susan is survived by two sons, Gerald L. (Bernie) of Little Falls and Kenneth E. of Duluth; her sister, Julia Groshel of Chishom; two grandchildren, Todd (Crystal) Sorvari of St. Bonifacius and Stacey Sorvari of St. Cloud and eight great-grandchildren; Jordan, Nathasha, Lincoln, Winston, Sierra, Olivia, Darian and Jackson. Also many nieces and nephews of whom she thought very highly of.
Susan was preceded in death by her parents; ex-husband Eino; and siblings, Helen, John, Maria, Paul, Millie and Baby Durish.
A prive family burial was held Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Meadowlands Cemetery. There will be a Celebration of her life at the Community Center in Meadowlands, Sunday, Nov. 10, from 11:30 to 3 p.m.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of St. Marys Essentia Medical Center in Duluth, both the Palliative Care and Hospice units.
