Irene Goetsch

Irene Alice Goetsch 89-year-old resident of Staples, passed away Saturday, Nov. 16, 2013, in Lakewood Health System Care Center in Staples. A Memorial Service was held Saturday, Nov. 23, at Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, with Pastor Greg Tomhave officiating. Burial will be at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls, at a later date.
Irene was born second of twin girls, Sept. 15, 1924, in Madison, to Emilie (Roth) and Carl Brandt. She was baptized and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Arena township of Lac Qui Parle County. Irene married Elmer Andrew Martin Goetsch, Feb. 28, 1943. God blessed this union with four children, Douglas, Barbara, Harlan and Sherman. There were times when she worked outside the home, but no job was more important than her family. She was an extraordinary Everyday woman. Irene was always there to brighten a day and give her unconditional love. She was genuine in her caring and encouragement. Irene had patience, gentleness and humor. Her faith ran deep and it gave her strength and comfort through the years. Irene had been a resident of the Lakewood Health Systems Care Center in Staples, since November of 2005. She fought a long, but courageous battle against Shy-Dragors Syndrome. Irene was a wonderful lady, friend, sister, wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmothe and great-grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love and will be missed immensely. Irene is survived by her children, Douglas (Jo) Goetsch, Barbara (Jim) Scheller, Harlan Goetsch and Sherman (Jan) Goetsch; brother, Lloyd (Caroline) Brandt; sisters, Evelyn Grieger, Arlene Karels and Ethel (David) Klepel; eight grandchildren, Alessandra (Steve) Trajlov, Heather Kelly, Todd (Mary) Holt, Eric (Lucy) Holt, Brooke (Ramone) Garcia, Ben (Jen) Goetsch Golden, Dylan Goetsch, and Kavell Chamberlain; 14 great-grandchildren, Hanna, Natalie, Ashley, Haley, Tyler, Tanner, Amanda, Dakota, Holly, Ramone, Julia, Andreas, Gabriel and Kyra.
Irene was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer; sister, Blanche Lawrence, and her parents, Carl and Emilie Brandt.
