Chester Helmin, age 88, a resident of Foley, died Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at the DVA Medical Center, St. Cloud.
A Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, Nov. 23, at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Gilman, with the Rev. Leo Moenkedick officiating. Burial was in the parish cemetery with full Military Honors provided by the Foley American Legion, Post #298.
Chester Helmin was born Nov. 22, 1924, in Alberta Township, Benton County, to Adam J. and Selma C. (Imbiorski) Helmin. Chester lived most all of his life in Alberta Township, Benton County. He farmed his entire life and worked construction for many years. He was a U..S Army Veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart recipient for being wounded in action. He enjoyed fishing and gardening. Chester was a member of the Foley American Legion and the Gilman VFW and SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church.
He is survived by his brothers and sisters; Peter, Foley; Josephine Kvittem, Rochester; Al (Renee), Rice; Imelda Lieser, Paynesville; Sylvester (Jean), Foley; Ann Sluss, Circle Pines and Frank (Elaine) of Foley; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters; Bernadette Helmin, Odelia Helmin, Colette Korneck; and two infant sisters.
