With the season about to start, expectations are up for Swanville.
A 15-8 record last year, as many wins as the Bulldogs have had since 2007-08 will do that.
Of course, so will having a do-it-all leader who’s established himself as one of the area’s premier centers with two seasons still left to play.
Junior Jordan Sales, who averaged 15.9 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game a year ago, returns to lead the Bulldogs, who look to climb even higher than last season’s fourth-place Prairie Conference finish.
“The thing he can do to help improve his game is keep pushing himself,” Swanville head coach Steve Miller said. “He works so hard during practice and the other guys see this and they work harder. He never gets tired and wears down other teams by doing this.”
Senior forward Cody Mollner also returns to the starting lineup after averaging 7.2 points and 8.0 rebounds inside a year ago.
Senior Aaron Miller and juniors Tyler Evans and Austin Johnson are expected to step into the starting lineup, following the graduation of Tren Dinius, Colten Kruzel, Trevor Loxterkamp, Zach Holtz and Austin Mollner.
Seniors on this year’s roster include Aaron Miller, Cody Mollner and Benjamin Ehrenberg.
“My expectations grow more and more every practice because the guys pick up new plays so quick,” coach Miller said. “I can see us challenging for the conference.”
Swanville opens the season at home against Brandon-Evansville, Tuesday.
