Rodney Rod Carson, age 78, of Hillman, passed away Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2013, at his residence.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 23, at St. Ritas Catholic Church in Hillman, with Father. Jerry Schik, O.S.C. officiating. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Rodney Edward Carson was born March 13, 1935, in Lakin Township, to Charles and Inez (Van Alstine) Carson and grew up on the family farm. Rod was united in marriage to Mildred (Fleck) Carson, May 11, 1957, at Ronneby Church. The couple settled in the Hillman area and raised six children while operating their dairy farm. Rod also worked as a heavy equipment operator for Petters Sand and Gravel, Landwehr Construction, and the Wilmus Ranch, from where he retired. Rod bought and sold horses and he loved working with them. He regularly attended many auctions and sale barns. Rod was an avid deer hunter and fur trapper. He enjoyed spending time with his grandkids, and bestowed a special nick name on everyone he met.
Rod is survived by Mildred Carson of Waite Park; children, Daniel (Francine) Carson of St. Cloud, Donald Carson of Hillman, Donette (Ron) Beack of Hillman, Jim Carson of Hillman, Sharyn (Chris) Szczech of Clearwater and Muriel (Kent) Roessler of Anoka; 13 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Inez (Van Alstine) Carson; brothers, Bob and Doyle; and sister, Muriel Carson; sister-in-law, Ann Carson; great granddaughter, Tehya Carson.
Honorary pallbearers were Sheryl Pederson and Milton Pressler. Active pallbearers will be Stephen Carson, Jesse Carson, Jeremy Beack, Christopher Carson, Christopher Szczech, and Alan Roessler.
