Boys Basketball: Sartell-St. Stephen edges Little Falls in season opener

Little Falls got an early look at one of the top contenders in its section during Tuesday’s season opener, falling 52-44 in a close defensive battle with visiting Sartell-St. Stephen.

The Sabres, last year’s Section 8AAA champion, held the Flyers to 33.3 percent shooting from the field while hitting 54.3 percent on its own end.

Junior Bryce Zawatzke scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead the Flyers, with senior Sebastian Sowada collecting all nine of his points on a trio of three-pointers.

Junior Thomas Bell added eight points and junior Kyle Kabanuk scored four.
