Hundreds of children enjoy visiting with Santa’s reindeer stationed outside Hartmann’s Store during St. Nick Night festivities. Last year (from left): “Jingles” and Sonja Johnson made Pierz residents Jim and Stacie Gross’ children, Logan, Blake and Elizabeth, smile as they sat in the sleigh. This year “Yukon” and “Mira” will delight visitors during Wednesday’s St. Nick Night.

Pierz will once again open the city to its residents and visitors to celebrate St. Nick Night and the Christmas spirit.

Although the feast of St. Nicholas (St. Nick) is celebrated Dec. 6, the Pierz Commercial Club decided to set the first Wednesday each December as the time to celebrate citywide.

Children will be busy coloring to enter the  coloring contest, with their finished masterpieces due at Kurtz Furniture by Wednesday.

The festivities begin early in the day, when at 10 a.m. area businesses will unveil in-store specials, food samples and holiday surprises. All stores will remain open until 7:30 p.m.

The Pierz Ballroom will host a holiday social, boutique and bake sale from 3 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Santa will be at the Ballroom from 4 p.m. – 8 p.m., to pose for a photo with children as they tell him their heart’s desire.

In the evening, children and parents alike can head to Hartmann’s Store, to visit “Yukon” and “Mira,” live reindeer who left Santa’s side to visit from 4 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Beginning at 4:30 p.m., free horse-drawn trolley rides will be available starting at Farmers and Merchants State Bank. The ride will take guests through the city, with the last one leaving at 7 p.m. sharp.

As an added activity, children, teens and adults are invited to a St. Nick Night program at the Pierz Public Library, from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m. During that time, they can make a holiday ornament to take home, listen to a story and visit with friends and family.

A bonfire, complete with S’mores donated by Pierz Foods, will be manned by Pierz volunteer firefighters at the Pierz City Park, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m.
