Little Falls Community Schools employee, Becky Majerus, has been named the December Employee of the Month by the Little Falls Chamber of Commerce.
Majerus has been working as a media paraprofessional for 13 years. Her job consists of supervising the media center at Lincoln Elementary School, ensuring both teachers and students have needed library materials and helping with class projects. She checks books in and out and catalogues books as they come in.
“If there is something a student or teacher needs that is not in the library, I will contact the other libraries in the district for the material,” Majerus said.
Majerus said that CDs, DVDs and tapes are pretty much obsolete with the Internet at everyone’s fingertips. But she has not seen a drop in the usage of books.
“I don’t see books going away. There are so many older ones unavailable for iPads that books are still needed. The kindergarten through second grade students, when still learning to read, will always need books. A book is exciting to them,” she said.
“I am blessed to be in this position, having access to all the teachers and the students in the school,” she said.
Majerus’ supervisor, Emily Stenberg, said, “Becky is the most dedicated employee I have ever worked with. I have had the pleasure of supervising her in the Lincoln Media Center for the past four years, but in that time, she has taught me so much more than I have taught her.”
Besides working at Lincoln Elementary, Majerus also works with the Little Falls Community Services as an instructor with adults with disabilities and as a paraprofessional with Kids Korner. She has been there for 10 years.
Steve Larson, her supervisor, said, “Becky is very dedicated and a responsible employee. She is very professional in her work and is well respected among her peers. Becky has gone above and beyond what is required of her job. Becky is well deserving of being named Employee of the Month because of her commitment to participants in the Adult with Disabilities program and her caregiving to the children in the Kids Korner program at Lincoln Elementary School. It is a pleasure working with Becky.”
A third job for Majerus is working part-time at St. Francis Clare Residence as a certified nursing assistant.
Majerus said that all her jobs are very rewarding, but that she couldn’t do one of them without all the awesome staff, co-workers, students and clients she works with. She also said that the diversity of all her jobs helps her be a more well-rounded person.
“I am humbled and honored to receive this. I am also in shock for being rewarded for doing the job I love,” she said.
Majerus’ husband, Jeff, is also an employee of the Little Falls School District, as is her son Chris. She also has another son, Bryan, who lives in the St. Cloud area.
In her spare time, Majerus loves to go fishing, four-wheeling and snowmobiling. She also enjoys decorating the large windows in her Kids Korner room and in the media center at Lincoln Elementary for the different holidays and seasons.
For becoming the Employee of the Month, Majerus received gift certificates from Broadway Stylists, Perkins Restaurant, Falls Floral, Pizza Ranch and the West Side Bar. She had a professional photo taken by Silker Studio and was given a cookbook from St. Gabriel’s Hospital Hospice Program.
