Girls Basketball: Boser’s last-second shot lifts Pierz over Little Falls in opener

Junior Talyre Boser hit a game-winning shot with three seconds left to give Pierz a dramatic 68-67 win over visiting Little Falls in Tuesday’s season opener for both teams.

The Pioneers had four players finish in double figures, including juniors Kayla Carter (17), Shelbie Boser (15) and Talyre Boser (14) and senior Bridget Bednar (12), with senior Tiara Hopkins adding eight points.

Carter also grabbed a team-high 13 rebounds, while Hopkins came down with 12, Shelbie Boser had 11 and junior Kailey Egan had 10.

Sophomore Melanie Dorn led all scorers with 23 points for the Flyers and also recorded a team-high five assists and five steals.

Junior Kendra Pohlman and sophomores Jordan Schuett and Sarah Gold each followed with nine points and sophomore Laura Fregin collected seven.

“We played great at times and won the rebounding battle,” Pierz head coach Rich Teske said, with the Pioneers outrebounding the Flyers 63-42.
