The season is barely a week old, but Pierz cemented itself as the early favorite to repeat as section champs by steamrolling its first five foes, including a 59-9 win at Royalton-Upsala, Tuesday.

The night started well and proceeded to get better and better for Pierz, as it won the first 10 bouts to build up a 45-0 lead.

Seniors Chris Ortman, Evan Woitalla and Jordon Goebel, junior Cole Brausen and freshman Brandon Ortman earned falls, senior Brandon Sullivan and sophomore Kolton Eischens won with major decisions and freshmen Andrew Tomala, Matt Kummet and Brett Kapsner all recorded decisions to open the dual.

Then Royalton-Upsala got on the board as sophomore Kyle Lange emerged with a 4-1 decision, followed by a quick pin from senior Mitch Lange.

Pierz got back on top in the final two bouts to close the night, with seniors Ryley Smude and Curtis Brisk finishing off their opponents with first-period pins.
