Little Falls ventured north for a pair of big duals at Thursday’s Frazee tri, winning a rematch of last year’s Section 8AAA finals 41-24 over Moorhead while falling 36-25 to Class A’s second-ranked Frazee.
Against Moorhead, the Flyers earned major decisions in two of the first three matches from Leo Wilczek and Logan Kapphahn, then Josh Beack earned a quick 38-second fall and A.J. Jenks picked up a 2-0 decision to make it 17-4.
Moorhead pulled back within 17-8 with a major decision, but the Flyers further extended their lead to 29-8 with consecutive pins from Justin Jenks and Axel Lange.
The Spuds rattled off three wins in a row to shrink the gap to 29-21, but wouldn’t get any closer, as the Flyers sealed the dual with pins from Tyler Gastecki and Trysten Ross.
The Flyers gave Frazee all it could ask for in the other end of the tri, leading 19-18 after a 13-8 win from Derek McMahan at 160, but the Hornets’ strength in the upper weights tilted the dual in their favor.
Dan Mushel and Trysten Ross had pins for Little Falls, A.J. Jenks won with an 11-0 major decision and Logan Kapphahn, Josh Beack and McMahan all had decisions.
