Don Nelson

Don Nelson, 72-year-old resident of Little Falls, passed away Wednesday, Dec. 18, 2013, at St. Gabriels Hospital in Little Falls.
Funeral services were held Dec. 23, at the Shelley Funeral Chapel in Little Falls, with the Rev. Nate Bjorge officiating. Burial was in the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery north of Little Falls. Military Honors were provided by the Little Falls Amercian Legion Post #46.
Don was born Dec. 5, 194,1 in Little Falls, to the late Walter and Ruth (Bjorklund) Nelson. He grew up in the Randall, area where he attended school. Don was united in marriage to Janet DeRosier, Aug. 3, 1962, at Bethel Lutheran Church in Little Falls. He honorably served his country for 23 years in the U.S. Army, serving during the Laos Conflict. Don was employed as a telephone tech for 30 years, working for Northwest Bell, US West, and Qwest. His greatest joy in life was spending time and loving his family. He also enjoyed having coffee at McDonalds, dancing, tinkering with everything, and collecting elephants. Don was gifted with the ability to be very mechanical, which came in handy when working on his many old Chevrolet trucks. He also tolerated the casino, mostly for his wife Janet. Don was a member of the Little Falls American Legion Post #46 and The Telephone Pioneers. He was greatly loved and will be dearly missed.
Don is survived by wife, Janet Nelson of Little Falls; sons, Stacy (Kathy) Nelson of Arden Hills and Brett (fiance; Debra Pearson) Nelson of Little Falls; grandchildren, Jordan, Taylor, Kaitli and Kaylee Nelson; brothers, Jim Nelson of Maryland, Walter Nelson of Colorado, Gerald Nelson of Texas, Gary Nelson of Little Falls and DuWayne Nelson of Hinkley.
Don was preceded in death by parents, Walter and Ruth Nelson and brother, Jerome Nelson.
