Beatrice Nelson

Obit-Nelson-B-formattedBeatrice Bea M. Nelson, 89-year-old resident of Little Falls, passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2013, at Highland Senior Living in Little Falls.
A funeral service was held Friday, Dec. 27, at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, with Pastor David Sperstad officiating. Burial was at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls.
Beatrice Marion Popilek was born April 25, 1924, in Little Falls, to the late Ben and Mary (Olson) Popilek. She grew up in Little Falls and graduated from Little Falls High School in 1942. Bea then attended Normal Training and graduated in 1943 with her teaching certificate. She then attended St. Cloud State College to further her education. Bea was united in marriage to Arthur Phillip Nelson, Aug. 23, 194, at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls. Bea was a school teacher in rural country schools in Morrison County from 1943 to 1968. She taught and tutored at Lincoln Elementary School in Little Falls from 1969 until her retirement in 1979. Bea enjoyed sewing, quilting and camping. She was a very active member at First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, where she was the childrens choir director for eight years, taught Sunday School and was Sunday School Superintendent for many years. She also enjoyed spending a week each year at Luther Crest Bible Camp as a counselor. Bea was a member of First Lutheran Church in Little Falls, and the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary.
Bea is survived by her son, Douglas Nelson; and wife Janet of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sisters, Helen Popilek and Mary Ellen (Willard) Doucette, both of Little Falls; brother-in-law, Lawrence Seelen of Little Falls; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Arthur; sister, Sarah Seelen; brother, Melvin Popilek; and sister-in-law, Marlene Popilek.
