Darrell Fluke

Obit-Fluke-Darrell-formattedDarrell Fluke, 81-year-old resident of Fort Ripley, died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud. A Memorial Service was held Friday, Jan. 3, 2014 at the Emblom-Brenny Funeral Service in Little Falls. The burial will be held at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery at a later date.
Darrell Edward Fluke was born Sept. 2, 1932, in Hibbing, to the late Edwin and Beulah (Cody) Fluke. Darrell enlisted in the United States Coast Guard, July 28, 1950, in Green Bay , Wis. He served his country from the first day of the Korean War to the very last day of the war when he was honorably discharged July 27, 1953, in San Diego, Calif. Darrell attended St. Cloud State University and received his Masters Degree in secondary education and speech. Darrell taught English in Michigan and Moose Lake for a few years. He moved to Auburn, Calif. in 1970 where he taught for a few years. He then worked as an electrical engineer for 15 years. He moved back to Minnesota in 1995. Darrell had a strong passion for the arts and enjoyed photography, reading, watching Nova, classical music, science and acting. With his thirst for knowledge he was a constant student of life with a larger than life personality.
Left to cherish his memory are his life-long friend, Marjory Van Nostrand of Fort Ripley; children, Laura Fluke of Cedar Rapids, David (Jamie) Fluke of McMinnville, Ore. and Katherine Fluke of England; sister, Marilyn Fluke of Mondovi, Wis; sisters-in-law, Annette Fluke and Chris Fluke; six grandchildren and his beloved cat, Tennessee Williams.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Beulah (Cody) Fluke and his brothers, Ken Fluke and Don Fluke.
