Kelsey said Sophie wasn’t due until Jan. 7, and while her water broke at 2 a.m., Sophie didn’t make her appearance until 10:02 p.m., weighing in at 6 pounds, 1 1/2 ounces and was 19 1/2 inches long. Sophie wasn’t just the first baby born Jan. 1 at St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls, she was the only child to be born that day. Thursday, the Zeis family was showered with gifts in honor of Sophie being the first child born in 2014 in Morrison County. St. Gabriel’s Hospital and the Family Medical Center offered a package of gifts, St. Gabriel’s Hospital Auxiliary offered a bag full of gifts; a gift basket and $100 in cash was offered by the Little Falls Business Association and a hand-tied fleece blanket was given by Kinship. Sophie will also be welcomed by her grandparents Barb Hess of Long Prairie, Barry Hess of Eagle Bend and John and Sherry Zeis of Burtrum, as well as great-grandparents Leonard and Louise Hagstrom of Burtrum, Robert and Judy Zeis of Burtrum and Lucille Hagedorn of Eagle Bend.
