Nordic Skiing: Little Falls in peak form at Brainerd Invite

The Little Falls boys and girls Nordic teams each finished the 2013 portions of the schedule in fine form, sweeping the titles at the Brainerd Invite, Dec. 27.

In the boys race, the Flyers outdistanced runner-up St. Cloud Tech 374-353 to top the 10-team field, led by senior Mathew Massmann (29:34) in fourth place and senior John Gottwalt (30:00) in sixth.

Sophomore Gunner Kleinschmidt (30:25) followed in ninth place and eighth-grader Hunter Zupko (30:30) took 11th, with juniors Hunter Kleinschmidt (31:43), Ethan Crocker (33:03) and Michael Carll (33:33) all finishing in the top 30.

On the girls side, Little Falls topped runner-up Mora 369-359, powered by individual champ senior Maria Hauer, who won the race by three and a half minutes in 30:02.

Senior Kaitlin Geisenhof finished ninth individually in 35:25, with freshman Kendal Hendrickson (35:58) taking 12th and sophomore Amelia Kresha (36:06) earning 13th.

Adding top-30 finishes were eighth-grader Allie Foote (36:43), sophomore Elizabeth Becker (37:02), eighth-grader Anna McNamara (37:05) and sophomores Claire Gammon-Deering (38:35) and Hannah Veillette (39:25).
