The Bowlus First Response Team will host a free CPR awareness class Tuesday, Jan. 14, from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. at the Bowlus Community Center.
Tom VanHove, a well-known instructor for first response teams, law enforcement and firefighters, will lead the class.
The class is designed to prepare students so they know what to do in case of an emergency and when to call 911. Topics include recognizing the signs and symptoms of a heart attack, stroke and shock, as well as emergencies dealing with diabetics and external bleeding and the treatment for each of these topics.
There will be a question and answer segment at the end of the class, along with a demonstration of CPR for adults, children and infants and whta to do in case of a victim who is choking. Attendees will also be able to practice CPR on mannequins.
This is a non-card issued course only. Area residents served by the Bowlus First Response team are encouraged to attend, as well as those residents living outside of the Bowlus area.
