Last February, the Pierz Healy High School Art Club sponsored an “Empty Bowls Soup Supper” to raise funds for local food shelves. In doing so, the students created the soup bowls out of pottery, which were then purchased by community members to be filled with soup during the soup supper. Plans are to hold such a fundraiser again this year, with a different twist.
A Community Education class has been set up to learn how to sculpture, paint and glaze soup bowls. The two-night class, scheduled for two Mondays, Jan. 20 – 27 from 3:30 p.m. – 5 p.m., will teach participants the very basics of sculpting pottery. Students will make two bowls — one for themselves and one to sell. The class will be held in the art room at Pierz Healy High School, with art teacher Sara Underhill, instructing.
The cost of the class covers supplies to make the bowls and a ticket to attend the Soup Supper Wednesday, Feb. 26. Call Pierz Community Education at (320) 468-6458, ext. 7 for information or to register.
