Central Minnesota Boys Basketball: Pierz nearly springs big upset

Pierz fell just short in its bid to stun host Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted (HLWW), the second-place team in the Central Minnesota Conference, Jan. 9, falling 67-63.

Sophomore Aaron Weber lit up the Lakers for 23 points and sophomore Nick Herold drained 17, with junior Robbie Skiba registering eight points and 17 rebounds and senior Noah Thomsen contributing six points.


Paynesville pulls away

Weber and Herold each scored 18 points, but visiting Paynesville Area pulled away after holding a one-point lead at halftime for a 72-61 win, Jan. 11.

Robbie Skiba also reached double figures with 10 points and Thomsen and sophomore David Skiba both added four.

Sophomore Jonny Kasper chipped in a team-high six assists.


Trio of Pioneers reach double figures 

Three Pierz players reached double figures, but visiting Maple Lake pulled out a 72-51 Central Minnesota Conference win, Tuesday.

Herold had 12 points, Weber had 11 points and seven rebounds and Robbie Skiba had 10 points and eight rebounds for Pierz.

Holdingford dropped three games in the week, falling 71-50 at Rockford Area, Jan. 9, 54-37 to visiting Sauk Centre, Monday and 64-46 to visiting Kimball Area, Tuesday.
