Central Minnesota Girls Basketball: Holdingford’s charmed run continues

In a trio of games decided by a combined seven points, Holdingford emerged on top in all three, extending its winning streak to seven games and improving its record to 11-1.

In the middle game of the week, Holdingford rallied from a pair of nine-point deficits in the second half to upend host Pierz 51-49 in Central Minnesota Conference play, Jan. 10.

Senior Sam Maciej and freshman Jo Merten each hit key shots to help the Huskers come storming back, with senior Joelle Ertl recording a pair of her nine steals on the night to give Holdingford the lead with two minutes to play.

Ertl also led Holdingford with 14 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists, while Maciej scored 11 points.

Junior Kayla Carter scored 15 points and senior Tiara Hopkins recorded eight points and 12 rebounds to lead Pierz.

Juniors Shelbie Boser and Talyre Boser followed with seven points apiece and senior Kailey Egan had five, with Talyre Boser distributing five assists.

Holdingford churned out a low-scoring 32-30 non-conference win over visiting Melrose Area, Jan. 9.

Each team took turns leading throughout the night, with a late Ertl steal again sealing the win.

Ertl netted 14 points, Maciej had nine and junior Kaitlyn Hellmann picked up five points and 10 rebounds.

Holdingford also held off visiting Kimball Area 44-41, Tuesday.

 

Bednar posts double-double versus Maple Lake

Carter tallied 14 points and Bednar posted a 13-point, 11-rebound double-double for Pierz in a 71-48 defeat at Maple Lake, Tuesday.

Hopkins added eight points and 10 rebounds and junior Kendra Fischer chipped in five points.
