Megan McCray, the daughter of Sara and Terry Scepurek of Little Falls, was recently selected Royalton High School’s November 2013 Artist of the Month.
“Art has always been a huge part of my life,” said McCray. “But it wasn’t until I came to Royalton High School that I realized that art was something that I really wanted to do for the rest of my life. I have been taking as many art classes as I could since I came here and am working on a college photography portfolio my senior year.”
“Megan has really put forth the kind of time and efforts that are worthy of some major praise,” said art instructor Carl Halverson. “She has a great sense of overall composition and has really learned to aim before tripping the shutter. In many cases with digital cameras, students approach photography with a fire a hundred times and you’ll get something decent. It takes the kind of patience that Megan has shown to slow down, see the finished product first and then compose the shot. It’s ready, aim, then fire.”
“For my college portfolio I am working in the direction of the question: ‘What if the game of basketball was a religion?’” said McCray. “What if the commandments were the rules of the game or what if the basketball Bible was full of plays and pictures of those who had followed the rules to become great players? That’s what I will be working on this year in my AP college level class at RHS. Next year I plan to attend The Art Institutes International of Minneapolis to chase my dream of one day becoming a photographer for a professional basketball team.”
