Allowing just eight points in the first half, Royalton dominated visiting Ogilvie 44-21, Jan. 31.
The Royals ended the first half on a 15-2 run to go ahead 21-8 at the break, then fended off the Lions as they at one point pulled back within six.
Sophomore Matt Daleiden finished two rebounds shy of the school record, pulling down 16 on the night to go with four points.
Sophomore Ben Borash led a balanced offensive effort with 10 points and three assists.
Sophomore Tyler Hellickson followed with eight points and eight rebounds, junior Matt Fountain recorded six points and eight rebounds and senior Kasey Stevens had five points and seven rebounds.
Sophomore Shane Vannurden chipped in four points, junior Nick Popp had three and sophomore Monty Sieben had two.
Royalton kept the momentum going early in its next contest, leading most of the first half before host Bertha-Hewitt rallied for a 42-30 win, Monday.
All of the Royals’ offense came from three players, with Borash and Daleiden each scoring 11 points and Fountain putting up eight points and 10 rebounds.
Upsala tips Browerville,
rumbles past St. John’s Prep
Upsala held Browerville to 15 first-half points in building an 11-point lead at the break, then held on down the stretch to tip the visiting Tigers 53-50, Jan. 31.
The Cardinals leaned heavily on their primary senior duo of Christian Pekarek and Dylan Zimmerman, with Pekarek recording 24 points and four assists and Zimmerman posting 19 points and 14 rebounds.
Junior Aidan Guthrie added four points and 11 rebounds.
Upsala closed in on a repeat Prairie Conference title with the win, improving to 9-0 while Browerville dropped to 6-3.
The Cardinals went on to fly past visiting St. John’s Prep 76-41, Monday, behind 24 points from Pekarek, 18 from Zimmerman and 14 from junior Jeremy Halverson.
Juniors Jeffrey Halverson and Kyle Soltis added seven and six points, respectively.
Pekarek broke two schools record in the week for career steals and three-pointers made.
Swanville clipped twice
Swanville narrowly fell to a pair of the top teams in the Prairie Conference, dropping a 74-70 game at West Central Area, Jan. 31 and an 82-74 contest at Browerville, Monday.
Juniors Jordan Sales and Tyler Evans led the Bulldogs against West Central, with Sales putting up 23 points and 15 rebounds and Evans finishing with 16 points and five assists.
Senior Cody Mollner followed with 14 points and sophomore Carter Loven recorded eight points and five steals.
Sales again led the charge versus Browerville, tallying 24 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks.
He was joined in double figures scoring by junior Austin Johnson (15), Mollner (13) and senior Aaron Miller (10), with Evans adding nine points.
Evans also distributed eight assists and Loven passed out six, with Mollner grabbing 10 rebounds to record a double-double.
