Royalton-Upsala had four wrestlers earn Prairie/Park Region (PPR) Conference championships at Osakis, Feb. 1, with senior Mitch Lange named the tournament’s outstanding wrestler.
Mitch Lange pinned his first two foes in a combined 85 seconds, then won 5-1 in the finals at 170 pounds.
The three wins brought his career win total to 195.
Junior Brady Moulzolf and sophomores Brad Kroll and Kyle Lange also took home individual titles for Royalton-Upsala, which placed fourth out of 10 teams.
Moulzolf earned a pin in the semifinals before cruising 13-6 in the championship at 145.
Kroll advanced to the finals at 160 with a pin and 12-0 major decision, followed with a narrow 5-4 win.
Kyle Lange won 9-2 in the semifinals, then had similar success with an 11-2 major decision in the finals at 182.
Other place winners for the Royals included: in third place, senior Shawn Urbanski (152); in fourth place, junior Joe Jensen (120) and sophomore Ethan McCoy (138); and in fifth place, senior Matt Neu (132) and eighth-grader Cole Scofield (106).
Royalton-Upsala was without three of its normal varsity wrestlers who were at the ninth-grade state tournament, with seventh-grader Jackson Held taking third place, freshman Ty Held earning fourth and freshman Michael Petron taking eighth.
Royals blast BBE, fall to Aitkin
The Royals breezed to a 45-15 victory over visiting Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (BBE), Jan. 30, while falling 39-28 at Aitkin, Monday.
Moulzolf won by pin, McCoy earned a technical fall, Kyle Lange won with a major decision and Petron won by default versus BBE, with the Royals also receiving four forfeits.
Against Aitkin, sophomore Clint Gadacz, Mitch Lange and Kyle Lange produced pins, Petron earned a major decision and Neu and Kroll won with 8-4 decisions.
