Granite Ridge Wrestling: Little Falls closes regular season with a flourish

Little Falls rolled past Fergus Falls 54-21 and host Alexandria 39-19 to close the regular season, Feb. 7.

The Flyers won seven of the first eight matches to build a 36-6 lead on their way to defeating Fergus Falls, then won five of the final six bouts to break open an 18-15 dual versus Alexandria.

Seniors Dan Mushel and Derek McMahan, junior Logan Kapphahn, sophomores Justin Jenks and Trevin Larson and freshman Josh Beack all went 2-0 on the night, with senior Tyler Gastecki and freshman Billy Winkleman teamed up to win both matches at 182 pounds.

Sophomore Gage Blechinger earned a pin in his only match at 195 and senior Trysten Ross earned a pin in a mere eight seconds versus Fergus Falls.

 

Flyers split at Mora tri

Little Falls split a pair of duals at the Mora tri, Feb. 6, defeating Dassel-Cokato 43-21 while falling 37-31 in the final bout to the host Mustangs.

Eighth-grader Leo Wilczek, Kapphahn, Gastecki and Ross each won twice on the night.

The Flyers were scheduled to compete in the Section 8AAA team tournament in Bemidji, Saturday, Feb. 15.
