Prairie Girls Basketball: Upsala sprints past LPGE

Freshman Katlin Welinski scored 23 points and pulled in 10 rebounds to lead Upsala to a 71-58 home win over Long Prairie-Grey Eagle (LPGE), Monday.

Senior Kaelin Smieja and junior Sara Herzog each followed with 13 points, junior Brooke Westrich scored seven and senior Katie Ripplinger had five.

Upsala fell three days prior at Prairie Conference leader Osakis 81-37, Feb. 14.

Welinski scored 12 points, Smieja had 10 and Herzog put in seven for the Cardinals, with Welinski grabbing seven rebounds.

 

Royalton, Swanville upended

Royalton raced out to a 13-0 lead at the start, but host LPGE rallied back to claim a 61-59 win, Tuesday.

Senior Emily Fussy had 23 points and six rebounds, sophomore Beth Cimenski had 10 points and four steals, senior Courtney Popp had eight points and nine rebounds and sophomore Maddi Rudolph also grabbed nine rebounds for the Royals.

Royalton stuck within five points at halftime, but host St. John’s Prep pulled away late for a 51-34 victory, Feb. 14.

Fussy scored 12 points and Cimenski had 10.

A banged-up Swanville team fell 82-29 to visiting Browerville, Feb. 14 and 64-25 at Kimball Area, Monday.

Junior Steph Koetter had 11 points and eight rebounds and junior Danica Hanson and sophomore Haileigh Sales each put in seven points against Browerville.

Hanson had 12 points, freshman Madison Beseman scored six and eighth-grader Brooklyn Thieschafer added four against Kimball.
