Duane Miller

Obit-Miller-formattedDuane Donald Miller, 100-year-old resident at the Long Prairie Nursing Home, passed away Thursday, Feb. 20, 2014. A memorial service will be held June 29, at the Roger and Diane Miller residence on Rush Lake.
Duane Donald Miller was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Lake Benton, Lincoln County to the late George and Edith (Otto) Miller. Duane was united in marriage to Margaret L. Gutman Jan. 19, 1936, in Little Falls. Together they made their home in Cushing Township on the family farm, where they lived for more than 56 years. In 1995, Duane and Margaret retired from farming and moved to Little Falls. In 2005, Duane and Margaret became residents of the Long Prairie Nursing Home. Margaret passed away in February of 2009. Duane was a knowledgeable and successful farmer, always working to improve his dairy herd and crops.When he wasnt on one of his John Deere tractors working his farm, he enjoyed his family, friends and occasionally dropping a line in his favorite fishing hole.
Duane will be dearly missed by his children, Donald Miller and wife, Carol of Aurora, Colo., Margie Kirkholm and husband James of Brooklyn Park, Robert Miller and wife Lori Johnson of Eagan, Roger Miller and wife Diane of Blaine and Diane Fritz and husband Harvey of Randall; sisters, Shirley Schneider and husband Robert of Walker, Phyllis Stumpf and husband John of Cloquet and Anita Edie Kennedy and husband John of Ohio; grandchildren, Terri Stapleton, Sherri Self, Jodi Russell, Juli Reiakvam, Donald Miller, Timothy Kirkholm, Lisa Melmed, Lori Miller, Mark Miller, Scott Miller, Lee Miller, Carla Fritz, Carrie Lamott  and Michael Fritz; and 28 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Margaret; daughter-in-law, Carol Miller; brothers, Virgil, Maynard, Myron  and George Rusty Miller; and sisters, Gladys Moravec and Arlene Feldt.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of the Long Prairie Nursing Home for the many years of exceptional care given to their parents.
