Central Minnesota Girls Basketball: Pierz closes regular season with fifth win in a row

Pierz capped off a hot run to the end of the regular season with a 56-45 victory at Kimball Area, Feb. 28, its fifth win in a row.

Senior Bridget Bednar led a trio of Pioneers in double figures with 20 points, joined by senior Tiara Hopkins with 14 and junior Kendra Fischer with 11.

Junior Shelbie Boser added nine.

Junior Talyre Boser distributed four assists and senior Kailey Egan had three, while Bednar recorded seven steals.

 

Huskers claim second place in conference

With second place in the Central Minnesota Conference on the line, Holdingford came through with a 58-45 victory at Maple Lake, Feb. 28, led by senior Sam Maciej with 24 points, nine rebounds and five assists.

Senior Joelle Ertl added 17 points and five assists, while freshman Jo Merten recorded eight points and eight rebounds.

At the same time, Eden Valley-Watkins fell 48-43 versus conference champion Howard Lake-Waverly-Winsted, giving the Huskers second place in the conference outright.

Holdingford also defeated visiting Royalton 44-34 in non-conference action, Feb. 27, with senior Sam Maciej scoring 18 points and senior Joelle Ertl picking up 16 points and 10 steals.
