Section 6AA Boys Basketball: Pierz’ Weber’s 31 not enough as Staples Motley rallies

Sophomore Aaron Weber gave Pierz a 31-point jolt, but host Staples Motley managed to rally for a 65-56 win in the Sub-Section 6AA North quarterfinals, Feb. 27.

Sophomore Noah Boser followed with nine points, junior Robbie Skiba put in seven and sophomore Nick Herold added six.

Skiba also hauled in a team-high nine rebounds and Kasper distributed six assists.

The fifth-seeded Pioneers led 29-24 over fourth-seeded Staples Motley at the break, before the Cardinals’ offense picked up 41 points in the second half.

Pierz finished the season with a record of 4-23.

Matt Athman was the lone senior on this year’s roster.

 

Melrose knocks out Huskers

Also in the Sub-Section 6AA North quarterfinals, Feb. 27, second-seeded Melrose Area eliminated visiting seventh-seeded Holdingford 59-42.

Holdingford finished the season with a record of 4-23 as well.

Seniors for this year’s Huskers were Nick Hiltner, Zach Juaire and Jeremy Springer.
