An early morning fire at the historic Thielen Meats in Pierz has left the business only partially open for business.
Assistant Pierz Fire Chief Greg Fuhrman said the department got the call at 4:30 a.m., today (Friday, March 14).
About 18 firefighters responded the fire that engulfed the back side of the building, working for more than four hours to control the blaze. No one was in the building at the time of the fire, Fuhrman said.
Fuhrman said while the fire is under investigation, it was not suspicious in nature.
The area where the meat is cut and prepared was damaged in the fire, but nothing in the smoke houses or coolers. The business is partially open in that customers can purchase the meat available in the cases.
Works crews have begun clean-up at the store.
