Harnath Holmes, MD, long-time obstetrician and gynecologist for Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital, resigned from his Little Falls practice effective March 13.
Holmes, who has been serving the health care needs of Central Minnesota women since May of 1999, has decided to join an obstetrics and gynecology practice in Hawaii.
Joe Messmer, interim market president for Unity Family Healthcare in Little Falls, which includes both Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital, said Holmes will be missed.
“In the more than 14 years Dr. Holmes has been in Little Falls, he has been admired for his medical and surgical skills as well as his unquestioned dedication to his patients,” Messmer said. “He will be missed not only by his patients and colleagues throughout Unity Family Healthcare, but by the community as well.”
Holmes said the admiration extends both ways.
“It has been my honor to care for the women of Morrison County,” Holmes said. “To have been involved in over 1,000 births here has been extremely rewarding. For those who have entrusted me with their care, I thank you.”
Messmer says the recruitment effort is already well under way.
“Family Medical Center remains committed to serving the needs of area women and will be exploring ways to provide OB/GYN coverage that will ensure those needs will be met,” he said. “Dr. Susan Okoniewski continues to be available to provide for the health needs of women locally, including performing annual exams, deliveries, c-sections and gynecological surgical procedures. In addition, several of our family medicine providers offer obstetrical services. Family Medical Center and St. Gabriel’s Hospital have already begun the search for a replacement and together we are committed to serving the health care needs of women throughout Central Minnesota.”
