Kids get out of burning Little Falls home safely

For the second time in just more than a month, kids at home when a fire broke out did the smart thing: they called for help and got out of the home and stayed out.

“The kids got out and stayed out,” said Little Falls Fire Chief Mike Nieman. “They did excellent.”

Nieman said the call came in at about 2:50 p.m. Saturday, March 22. A fire had broken out in a basement bedroom of the Joshua Schneider home at 702 12th St. N.E. The 17 firefighters were able to contain the fire to the one room, although the home and its contents sustained heavy smoke damage.

Nieman said fire detectors alerted the three kids to the fire, who were home while their parents were at work.

Nieman said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
