Sam Butler was Holdingford’s ace the past two years.
This season, the Huskers aren’t quite sure who will be on the mound in big games.
Not that that’s necessarily a bad thing.
“We should have a lot of depth at pitching this year,” Holdingford head coach Jason Bruns said. “I can see us being a team that pitches more by committee than having a No. 1 or No. 2 this year.”
Among the contingent looking to gobble up innings on the mound are seniors Jake Nelson, Jordan Gombos and Jeremy Springer and juniors Nathan Brinker, Nathan Maciej, Taylor Nitz, Trevor Brown and Austin Gerads.
Looking to help whoever is on the mound will be what Bruns called the primary strength of the team, its defense.
The Huskers return their entire infield, including three-year senior starters Jeremy Springer and Cody Bialka up the middle and seniors Jake Nelson and Mitch Merten at the corners.
Holdingford also brings back starting outfielders in senior Mitch Messman and junior Nathan Brinker.
New players being looked upon to contribute will be senior outfielders Nick Catton and Chris Burg and junior infielders Austin Gerads and Taylor Nitz.
