Baseball: Upsala-Swanville Area 6, Royalton 0

Senior Eric Lampert was about as dominant as can be in leading Upsala-Swanville Area to a season-opening 6-0 victory at Royalton, Thursday.

Lampert went the distance, tossing a one-hit shutout while striking out 17.

The Royals’ lone hit came with two outs in the fourth, with senior Cade Stang beating out a roller up the middle for an infield single.

Lampert also had a big afternoon at the plate, going 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Sophomore Justin Cichon reached base four times, stole four bags and scored four runs at the top of the lineup, with junior Austin Johnson delivering a pair of hits and two RBIs, junior Tyler Evans reaching base three times and junior Kyle Soltis hitting a double.

 

Baseball: St. Cloud Cathedral 10, Little Falls 0 (5 innings)

It wasn’t quite how you draw it up, as rival St. Cloud Cathedral shut out visiting Little Falls 10-0 in five innings in Thursday’s season opener, holding the Flyers without a hit.

Senior Alec Zack drew a couple of walks and senior Michael Fregin stole a base.

Softball: St. Cloud Cathedral 8, Little Falls 2

St. Cloud Cathedral shook off an early deficit to top visiting Little Falls 8-2 in Thursday’s season opener.

Senior Alea Cekalla and junior Mikayla Gottwalt each reached base three times and scored for the Flyers, with sophomore Sarah Gold tripling in a run.

 

Softball: Eden Valley-Watkins 16, Upsala 10

Upsala dropped a 16-10 season-opening slugfest to visiting Eden Valley-Watkins, Thursday.
