Derek Pounds convicted of domestic assault

On April 16, Derek Wayne Pounds, 41, Little Falls, was convicted of domestic assault, intentionally inflicting bodily harm, a misdemeanor charge.

A charge of felony domestic assault by strangulation was dismissed, said Assistant Attorney Todd Kosovich, because he pleaded guilty to the lesser assault charge.

On Oct. 8, 2013, the victim in the case contacted the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office to report the assault.

When officers arrived to the victim’s home, they noted injuries to her face, nose and neck. She said the assault occurred at Pounds’ residence. There he had pushed her to the ground and choked her to the point she couldn’t breathe.

Pounds admitted being with the victim, but denied injuring her. The officers smelled alcohol on his breath, a violation of his probation.

Pounds was sentenced to 90 days in jail, stayed for 60 days, and credit for the four days time served; fined $135; and placed on two years supervised probation.
