On April 7, Kurtis Dean Doherty, 20, Little Falls, had one felony charge of third degree assault, causing substantial bodily harm, dismissed in Morrison County District Court.
On Sept. 9, 2013, Doherty asked a friend to hang out with him at the Lindbergh School Park. According to the criminal complaint, when the friend arrived, Doherty punched him in the face. He allegedly punched the victim a few more times, then helped him up and told him never to lie to him again.
The next morning the victim went to St. Gabriel’s Hospital in Little Falls. He learned he had a complete crack around his jaw and would have to see an oral surgeon.
Allegedly, Doherty gave a taped statement to officers saying that he hit the victim until he stopped lying about a girl he was dating.
Assistant Morrison County Attorney Todd Kosovich said the charges were dismissed in the interests of justice as the State was unable to locate the victim who has three outstanding warrants for his arrest. The case could be brought to court again if the victim is located.
