Royalton High School (RHS) has named Deserae Hellickson, daughter of Adam and Cheryl Hellickson, as its March Student of the Month.
Hellickson stays busy with her involvement in National Honor Society, FFA, Tech Club, Youth Energy Summit, We Create Change and Feed My Starving Children.
“It’s been my pleasure to have Deserae as a Tech Club and YES member over the past three years,” said Marty Bratsch, technology education teacher at RHS. “She is one of the hardest working students I know and instrumental in the success of our programs.”
Sheri Menden, English teacher, said, “Deserae’s strong and caring personality as well as her dedication to education is sure to be a successful combination for a bright future.”
Hellickson will attend North Dakota State University in September to study electrical engineering. Her desire is to use her degree to research the applications of electrical engineering in regard to energy conservation. Hellickson’s interest in the field was first piqued in her favorite high school class, environmental English.
“I was always good at math and science and Mrs. Kunkel’s class opened my eyes to the possibility of a future in this area,” said Hellickson.
In addition to her career goals, her future plans include marriage and a family.
“My large, crazy fun, family means the world to me and will always be a large part of my life,” said the RHS senior. “Time flies when you’re having fun,” she said, and high school freshmen should “enjoy every moment that they can.”
