Youth ATV safety course offered

The Eastern Morrison County 4-Wheeler Club will host a Youth ATV class Saturday, April 26, at the St. Michael’s Parish Hall in Buckman and Genola Memorial Park in Genola.

This is a Department of Natural Resources (DNR) certified course and is required by statute for youths to operate ATVs. Students must be between the ages of 11-17. They must complete the ATV safety training course CD and return the computer printout certificate of completion signed by the parent or guardian on the day of the training, along with their birth certificate or (snowmobile certificate, firearms certificate) for verification of age.

The CD is available free of charge and may be obtained at any DNR office or by calling 1 (800) 366-8917.

The class is hosted by volunteer instructors and is limited to 35 participants. Check in is from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. and classroom training begins at 9 a.m. at the St. Michael’s Parish Hall in Buckman, and runs until noon. Lunch is provided. After lunch, participants and instructors will proceed to the Genola Memorial Park for one hour of ATV field training. Students should test on the machine they are going to ride and it is recommended that a parent or guardian attend the training with them.
