Deputy Dan “Scoop” Rocheleau has announced his candidacy for Morrison County Sheriff.

Born and raised in Morrison County, Rocheleau chose to stay in this area to work and raise his family. He grew up on the family farm in Platte Township, graduated from Pierz Healy High (1993) and earned his law enforcement degree from Central Lakes College.

Rocheleau and Kim (Herold) have been married for 14 years. She has been employed for 10 years at the Pierz Villa. The family lives on Kim’s family farm near Pierz with children Preston, Amaya and Alana. They raise livestock and crop farm.

Rocheleau began working as a part-time police officer for the city of Pierz. In 2002, he was hired by the Morrison County Sheriff’s Office as a patrol deputy and has continued as a deputy for the past 12 years. Rocheleau said he is privileged to be the county’s senior K-9 handler for the last nine years, utilizing the K-9’s for narcotic searches, school and civic teaching throughout Morrison County.

“I believe it is important to be involved in the community, he said. “I currently serve on both the Pierz Fire Department and Pierz Area First Response Team. I’m a member of the St. Joseph Parish, Knights of Columbus and Pierz Lions Club. I also volunteer on the Holy Trinity and Pierz School District safety boards and am director of the Harding-Lastrup Snodusters. I also love being involved with the Pierz youth baseball program as sports are a big part of my family.”

The Morrison County Sheriff’s Office has made great advancements under the current leadership of Sheriff Michel Wetzel, he said.

“Under my direction, I would like to continue the great work that has been done with narcotics in our county,” Rocheleau said. “Seeing the high use of narcotics in our youth, I believe we need to be more proactive at the school level by our officers having more presence in the schools.

“It would be a great honor to represent you as the next Morrison County Sheriff by providing you with continued leadership and integrity,” Rocheleau said.
