Royalton’s bats broke out in a big way against West Central Area and the rout was on, April 25, as the Royals cruised to a 13-2 win in a game played under the lights at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud.
Freshman Parker Brezinka led the charge, slugging a pair of doubles in a 3-for-4 night while knocking in two runs.
Additionally, Brezinka turned in a complete-game effort on the mound, allowing just three hits and striking out six.
Senior Cade Stang also had three hits and drove in a run, while juniors Brady Moulzolf and Matt Fountain, sophomore Jordon Smieja and freshman Nathan Psyck each had two hits.
Both of Smieja’s hits were doubles as he finished with three RBIs, while Psyck drove in two runs.
Freshman Michael Petron added a hit as well.
USA breaks late tie
Upsala-Swanville Area broke open a 2-2 tie with a five-run sixth inning to knock off St. John’s Prep 7-2 in a Prairie Conference match-up held at Dick Putz Field in St. Cloud, April 25.
The Patriots took a 2-0 lead in the second inning, as sophomore Chase Douvier followed up base hits by junior Austin Johnson and sophomore Andrew Kulla with a two-run double.
St. John’s Prep bounced back with runs in the third and fifth, tying the game at 2-2 heading into the sixth.
In the bottom of the frame, Johnson and junior Kyle Soltis led off with singles, followed by a walk by sophomore Cody Wensmann.
Kulla then coaxed a bases-loaded walk to give the Patriots back the lead, while sophomore Justin Cichon iced the game with a two-run base hit.
Douvier and Johnson each finished with two hits, Cichon reached base four times and Soltis stole a pair of bases.
Senior Eric Lampert dominated on the mound, limiting the Johnnies to one earned run on five hits and a walk while fanning eight.
“This was by far the best game we played defensively,” Upsala-Swanville head coach Adam Gerads said. “Hopefully we can keep building on this game.”
