Prairie Softball: Late Royalton rallies fall short

Royalton faced its two biggest tests of the season in successive fashion, dropping a pair of close games to Browerville and Eden Valley-Watkins.

Matched up against visiting Browerville on a dreary day, April 24, the Royals led 5-4 after four innings, but after the Tigers regained control with a 10-5 lead, had a late comeback bid fall short in a 10-8 defeat.

Seniors Jacquline Nichols and Katelyn Kasella each had two hits and two RBIs, with Nichols hitting a pair of doubles and Kasella smacking one.

Sophomore Nicole Popp also contributed two hits and an RBI and sophomore Kayla Eli doubled and reached base three times.

Royalton took a big cut into a seven-run deficit at Eden Valley-Watkins, April 25, but its four-run sixth inning wasn’t quite enough in an 8-5 defeat.

Nichols went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs, with sophomores Bethany Cimenski, Liz Czech and Popp collecting the team’s other hits.
