Upsala High School Announces its Top 10 students for 2014

Upsala-Honor-StudentsThe top 10 honor graduates at Upsala High School for 2014 are:

Rachel Schlumpberger of Bowlus is the daughter of David and Tammy Schlumpberger and the valedictorian of her class. During high school, she participated in student manager basketball, Knowledge Bowl, mathletes, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, track, volleyball, dance, concert choir, concert band, pep band, drama and National Honor Society. Schlumpberger has a 3.994 grade point average (GPA) and plans to attend the College of St. Benedict for her degree in business management.

Dylan Zimmerman of Elmdale, is the son of Steve and Tracy Zimmerman and the salutatorian of his class. During high school, he participated in basketball, baseball, track, drama, National Honor Society, Student Council Body president, concert choir and mathletes. Zimmerman has a 3.864 GPA and plans to attend St. Scholastica to double major in journalism and education with a minor in coaching.

Savanna Johnson of Upsala is the daughter of Steve and Sheri Johnson. During her high school career, she was involved in concert band, pep band, concert choir, drama, volleyball, track, Knowledge Bowl and is the senior class president. Johnson plans to attend Bemidji State College for a degree in criminal justice. She has a 3.836 GPA.

Ruthie Flaa of Grey Eagle is the daughter of James and Sylvia Flaa. During her high school career, she has been involved in National Honor Society, Student Council, Knowledge Bowl, drama, concert band and yearbook. Flaa has a 3.782 GPA and plans to attend the University of Northwestern for a degree in professional writing.

Kaelin Smieja of Burtrum is the daughter of Ken and Lynette Smieja. During her school career, she has been involved in basketball, mathletes, softball, concert band, concert choir, National Honor Society and is the senior class secretary. Upon graduation, Smieja plans to attend St. Cloud Tech and receive a degree as a dental assistant. She graduates with a 3.768 GPA.

Mitchell Lange of Burtrum, is the son of Darren and Tamara Lange. During his school career, he has been involved in National Honor Society, football, wrestling, concert choir and is a Student Council class representative. Lange has a 3.699 GPA and plans to attend St. John’s University for a degree in business.

Christian Pekarek of Little Falls is the son of Jeanne LeMieur and Michael Pekarek. During his high school career he was involved in basketball, baseball, mathletes and concert choir. Pekarek will play basketball for Bemidji State University on a Division II scholarship and plans to major in math education. He is graduating with a GPA of 3.541.

Shawn Pohlmann of Upsala is the son of Mary and Bill Pohlmann. During his high school career, he has been involved in basketball, football, concert choir, yearbook, baseball, Student Council class representative and mathletes. Pohlmann plans to attend the College of St. Scholastica to major in mathematics. He is graduating with a GPA of 3.500.

Katie Ripplinger of Bowlus is the daughter of Myron and Kristy Ripplinger. During high school, she has been involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, concert band, pep band, National Honor Society and yearbook.  Upon graduation, Ripplinger plans to attend the Regency Beauty Institute for a degree in cosmetology. Ripplinger graduates with a 3.432 GPA.

Jennifer Wuebkers of Burtrum is the daughter of Robert and Gail Wuebkers. During high school, she has been involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, concert band and pep band. She will attend the Model College of Hair Design to pursue a degree in cosmetology. She graduates with a 3.415 GPA.
