Naytahwaush woman convicted for stealing

Melanie Marie Sargent, 40, Naytahwaush, was convicted May 5 in Morrison County District Court of felony theft.

On Oct. 27, 2013, a Little Falls police officer was called to the local Walmart store when a store manager observed two suspects leaving the store with two full grocery carts, making no attempt to pay for the merchandise.

When the suspects realized they were being followed, they ditched the carts and ran to their vehicle.

The manager gave law enforcement a description of the two suspects and their vehicle. Later, they were located on Highway 10, near Randall.

Sargent was identified and it was learned she had a warrant out for her arrest.

The total amount of the merchandise removed from Walmart was $1,000.

Sargent was sentenced to  19 months in prison, stayed for five years, and 69 days in jail with credit given for the 69 days already served. She was fined $135 and given five years of supervised probation.
