Top 10 students at Swanville High School announced

Swanville-Honor-StudentsThe top 10 students in the graduating class of 2014 at Swanville High School are as follows.

Amanda Rieffer, daughter of Joel and Gail Rieffer is the Swanville valedictorian for the Class of 2014, with a 4.08442 grade point average (gpa). Rieffer has participated in volleyball since seventh-grade, and served as captain. She is the captain of the Swanville-Upsala track team; a member of the National Honor Society (NHS), serves on the Student Council and is student body president. She is in concert and pep band,  sings in the small choir and performed for theater. Rieffer plans to attend St. Scholastica in Duluth to major in either biochemistry or biology and will possibly double minor in gerontology and Spanish in preparation for a career in physical therapy. She also plans to attend undergraduate school at either St. Scholastica or the University of Minnesota.

Jessica Staricka, the daughter of Joe and Dianne Staricka, is the salutatorian for the Class of 2014, having earned a 4.0297 gpa. During high school, Staricka was involved in the NHS, band, theater, speech and choir. She plans to attend Minnesota State University in Mankato.

Nikki Primus is the daughter of Bill and Kris Primus and will graduate with a 4.017955 gpa. During her high school career, Primus was involved in volleyball, basketball, softball, band, choir, theater, Student Council, NHS and was on the Band Council. She plans to attend Winona State University to major in biology to become a pediatrician.

Emily Mettler is the daughter of Richard Mettler and Michelle Van Lith and has earned a 3.9509 gpa. In high school, Mettler was involved in varsity track, speech, NHS and band. She plans to attend the University of Minnesota Mankato and is thinking about majoring in business.

Corey Poland, the son of Timothy and Jennifer Poland, will graduate with a 3.59723 gpa. He has been involved in band, theater, track, choir, Student Council and NHS. Poland plans to attend Central Lakes College to finish a two-year degree before transferring to pursue an education in the forensic science field.

Ashley Cook is the daughter of Carol Wimmer and Richard Cook and will graduate with a 3.4674 gpa. During high school, Cook was involved in volleyball, Pep Club and NHS. She plans to attend Bemidji State University to major in accounting with a possible minor in criminal justice.

Andrew Vodak, the son of Juliet Kurtti and Jim Lusk, will graduate with a 3.388916 gpa. He was involved in football through high school. Vodak plans to attend Ridgewater College in Willmar for an associate’s degree in auto body collision.

Michelle Sobiech is the daughter of Joanne Waldoch and Dennis Sobiech and will graduate with a 3.361384 gpa. She was involved in school plays, band and NHS. Sobiech plans to attend Bemidji State University.

Danielle Sutton is the daughter of Pam and Dan Sutton and has earned a 3.337169 gpa. During high school, she was involved in volleyball, NHS, Healthy Communities Collaborative, theater, speech, softball, choir and band. Sutton plans to attend Bemidji State University, but is undecided about her major.

Aaron Miller, the son of Joe and Mary Miller, will graduate with a 3.33337 gpa. Miller played baseball, basketball and football during his high school career. He plans to attend Ridgewater College in Willmar for farm operations.

Swanville graduation ceremonies will be held Friday, May 23, in the high school gym.
