Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, May 15th at 11:00 AM at St. Marys Cathedral in St. Cloud for Reverend Richard M. Wey, age 88, of Waite Park, who died on Sunday at his home. Most Reverend Donald Kettler will officiate. Burial will be in Assumption Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday between 4:00-8:00 PM at St. Augustines Catholic Church in St. Cloud and on Thursday after 9:00 AM at St. Marys Cathedral in St. Cloud. There will be a Vigil Service on Wednesday at 7:00 PM at St. Augustines Catholic Church.

Reverend Richard Matthias Wey was born on December 7, 1925, in Bluffton, MN. He was the son of Joseph and Helen (Ament) Wey. Father Wey attended Saint Marys Grade School and Cathedral High School, Saint Cloud, MN and Saint Johns University, Collegeville, MN. He received his seminary training at Saint Paul Seminary, Saint Paul, MN. Father Wey was ordained on June 3, 1950, at Saint Marys Cathedral, Saint Cloud, MN by The Most Reverend Peter W. Bartholome. He celebrated his First Mass on June 4, 1950, at Saint Marys Cathedral, Saint Cloud, MN.

Father Wey served in the following assignments: associate pastor, St. Johns, Foley, July 1950-July 1955; pastor, St. Fredericks, Verndale, July 1955-September 1961; Ave Maria, Wheaton, September 1961June 1970; St. Marys, Mora and St. Kathryn, Ogilvie, June 1970-July 1981; Our Lady of the Lake, Big Lake, July 1981-June 1995. Father Wey was Director for the Society of the Propagation of the Faith from September 1988 until July 1998. He retired July 1, 1998.

In 1960 Father Wey was the Priest Moderator for the Television Program Ask A Catholic. Father Wey was the State Chaplain for the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus for many years.

Father Wey is survived by his brother, Jim, Woodbury, and his sister Dolores Brunner, Hutchinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Father William, Edward and Tony and sister, Mary Hotra.
