Need a new blouse or shirt for a special night out? Or a snazzy pair of jeans? Check out Suzie’s On Main, a new clothing store on DeGraff Avenue in Swanville in the former Waltman Appraisal Service building.
Owned and operated by Susan Doetkott, the shop carries stylish men’s and women’s clothing along with accessories such as jewelry and purses.
Doetkott, who moved to Swanville in August 2013, opened Suzie’s On Main May 9. She said it’s a great town, everyone is so friendly and nice. She feels very safe living there.
“I always wanted to do this,” she said. “I am obsessed with clothes. Even as a kid, I was constantly looking at clothing catalogues.”
Life took a turn away from her passion when she married and was raising children.
“I worked all sorts of jobs during that time. I was in manufacturing, food service, maintenance and retail,” said Doetkott. “Retail was my favorite.”
She said she met great people during that time and received lots of experience, but now she has the opportunity to do what she has always wanted to do, sell clothing.
“I am here to make people happy. I want to have clothing that appeals to everyone and I am open to suggestions on what to carry,” she said.
The clothing is casual, but not too sporty. There are some summer dresses along with T-shirts and capris. Doetkott’s clothing is priced to sell, between $10 – $50. Accessories range $2 and up.
“I work with several distributors to ensure I get the best price to pass on deals for my customers,” she said.
Suzie’s On Main is expecting to have clothing for children, ages 4 – 15, in June.
“As I grow, I plant to expand the retail portion of the store. There is plenty of room in the building,” she said. “At the end of summer, I will be adding winter clothing and outerwear.”
Doetkott would also like to expand to online sales. She already has a Facebook page under her name to update followers of new inventory.
Suzie’s On Main will be celebrating its grand opening sometime at the end of June. Doetkott said to watch for advertising for the event.
Doetkott has three sons, Justin, 20, Kyle, 14 and Brian, 13. When she is not pouring over catalogues or running Suzie’s On Main, she loves to garden and attend sporting events her boys are competing in.
Suzie’s On Main is open Monday – Friday from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. – 2 p.m. For more information, contact Doetkott at (320) 200-8025.
